Jeep—like its Chrysler and Dodge corporate siblings—is a brand in transition. So it should be of little surprise that 2010 is a slow news year, particularly for Jeep. Still, the Pentastar cobbled together two new variants of one of its best vehicles, the Jeep Wrangler, and resurrected the Renegade version of the Jeep Liberty to populate its stand at the 2010 Detroit auto show. Here are the deets on each:
2010 Jeep Liberty Renegade

Positioned between the base and Limited trim levels, the new Liberty Renegade attempts to lend a more aggressive look to the Liberty by adding darkened headlamp bezels, silver trim bits, skid plates, tow hooks, and dark gray 16-inch wheels with white-letter tires. Interior upgrades include nicer cloth seats, "driftwood" accent bezels, a leather-wrapped center console and steering wheel, a vehicle info screen, and cruise control. Among the available paint colors is an exclusive Salsa Red Pearl, and the Renegade also comes with Jeep's Selec-Trac active four-wheel drive system with two-speed transfer case and traction control. As with all Liberty models, the Renegade is powered by Chrysler's cranky old 3.7-liter V-6 that produces 210 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. The last-gen Liberty was also offered in Renegade spec; it featured a bank of roof-mounted off-road lights.

The Wrangler Islander marks the return of a trim package that was available more than 20 years ago. The new Islander is available in blue, silver, white, or black (in either two- or four-door body styles) and features the resurrected "Tiki Bob" logo on the hood and seats. Seventeen-inch wheels, 32-inch tires, bright blue interior upholstery, and rubber floor mats are also added, but that's it. The Islander adds $1120 to the price of a standard Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited.
2010 Jeep Wrangler Mountain
JORDAN BROWN , PATRICK M. HOEY, THE MANUFACTURER
Like the Wrangler Islander but hailing from an entirely different altitude, the Wrangler Mountain is a decal/upholstery package that includes gray 17-inch wheels, Mountain decals on the hood, 32-inch tires, and unique upholstery. The Mountain edition also includes taillamp guards, side steps, and a Mopar fuel-filler door. The option package will be available on any Wrangler (or Wrangler Unlimited) Sport S model for an additional $1820, provided it is painted Rescue Green, black, or dark blue.
